If you are serious about software you need to make your own hardware

If you are serious about software you need to make your own hardware. Steve Jobs lived by the mantra attributed to  computer Scientist Alan Kay and Apple (but also Next Computers) was the way he went about applying it: Write software and build the hardware to run it on for optimal fit. There was a time when Apple seemed in trouble with this model as Microsoft dominated the then known IT universe by programming Windows to run on anything you could built inside a standard computer chassis. Now it seems that everybody who is somebody in mobile computing is acquiring their own hardware maker: Google snapped Motorola (and by opening Android attracted the rest) and Microsoft acquired Nokia just yesterday. With rumors persisting about a similar Facebook move, Yahoo trying to stay afloat and Blackberry in the Market for a buyer I wonder how long it will be before Facebook or Yahoo snaps Blackberry (unless Apple and/or Microsoft snap it away and shut it down).
