Scavenging at TXL

TXL is a unique airport for many reasons. One of them is because it is a perfectly functional and well connected airport which for incomprehensible reasons is slated to be shut down if and when its troubled sibling, BER,  takes care of its thousands of issues. Another is because, at TXL, you can get a perfectly competitive curry wurst and eat it outdoors.  The reason I wanted to mention though is that it is perhaps the only airport in which you see dumpster divers, scavengers and other unfortunate people loitering around in it or asleep in front of its terminals. The reason for this, in fact, is exactly what makes TXL such a good airport: it is connected with regular cheap mass transportation and you can even walk to it if you wanted to. The contrast of scavengers with ridiculously priced luxury items in TXL’s shopping windows is a shock to your eyes…
